Christi Harris earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree at Southwest Missouri State in Springfield, Missouri. The year following graduation, she pursued her M.F.A. at the Rhode Island School of Design. Here she dove into her background of sewing and fabric by painting images of frilly party dresses. These images simultaneously dealt with the content of women's roles in society and her simultaneous love for the icons. This work earned her the Graduate Award of Excellence for two consecutive years, and also won her "The Liquitex Emerging Artist of the Year Award".
Her major series of works since graduation have always focused on personal and societal issues, with an underlying reliance on technical skill while using formal arrangements of color, pattern and shape.
Ms. Harris’ artwork has been exhibited in 48 states in national, regional and local juried exhibitions. In the past year, she has received a bevy of accolades for her paintings of grocery stores and icing, including two “Best of Show” awards.
Her academic career has taken her to three states and seven teaching institutions. Her current appointment is in the Department of Fine Art and Art History at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia where she teaches foundation and advanced studio courses in five media areas. She lives in Hampton, Virginia with her husband Joe and her five pets.
